Indigenous Communities | The Period Purse

Moon Time Education

*moon time = the menstruation time for some Indigenous cultures

The Period Purse takes seriously the issues of our responsibilities being on Indigenous territories. We work alongside First Nations communities to bring moon time (period) care to those who need it.

For over two years, The Period Purse has worked alongside a First Nations community who shared their knowledge, wisdom, experience, time, and talent to create a Moon Time Zine for generations to come.

Are you looking for specific Moon Time education for your group? We can provide you with a free one hour education session from a First Nations educator to lead this culturally responsive education for your group. Email us for more information!

Supporting Moon Time Care

indiginous communities - moontime care

Through individual donors and some grants, The Period Purse provides moon time products of choice (from bamboo biodegradable to reusable period products) to two First Nations territories. Our goal is to have free period products for those who need them across their territory in midwife outreach offices, libraries, schools, and community centres.

Do you work for an Indigenous organization? We can ship you a box of menstrual cups if your workplace is in Canada, or on First Nation, Métis, Inuit territory. Please email us.

Yearly Indigenous Fundraiser

Every January and February, The Period Purse raises funds to be able to purchase the period products that our First Nations community partners need.

We donate a variety of menstruation products to Midwives doing frontline outreach work in Indigenous communities. These Moon Time kits include:

  • Menstrual cup
  • Menstrual disc
  • Reusable cloth pads
  • Reusable period underwear
  • Cloth “carrying” bag (to keep their period products in)
  • Bamboo biodegradable pads and tampons
  • Motivational note with Indigenous artwork and written in their language
  • Moontime essential oil
